Japan Sake Prefecture Map

See every prefecture you have tasted sake from, on one map.

Explore Japan's 47 sake prefectures

Sake is brewed in all 47 prefectures of Japan, and each region has its own water, rice, climate and brewing traditions. The SakeSpirit prefecture map colors in each prefecture as you scan sake brewed there, so you can watch your journey spread from one region to the next.

Some areas are famous for a particular style. Niigata is known for clean, dry tanrei karakuchi sake; Hyogo's Nada district and Kyoto's Fushimi have brewed for centuries with prized spring water; Hiroshima pioneered soft-water brewing; and the snowy north, including Akita and Yamagata, produces many elegant ginjo sakes. Tasting across regions is one of the best ways to understand how place shapes flavor.

Tap a prefecture to see the sakes you have collected from it. Use the map as a wish list, too: pick a region you have not tried yet and look for a bottle next time you shop. Your map is private to your account.
